Do New Vehicles really Need To Be Detailed?

New doesn’t always mean clean when it comes to buying a vehicle these days.  By the time a vehicle makes it from the assembly line and to your driveway chances are it has been contaminated with environmental and industrial fallout along the way.  The less time that a vehicle spends on the dealer lot before it is purchased the better.  In fact if when ordering a new vehicle you should go ahead and tell the car dealership to skip the New Car Prep and leave the protective plastic on.  

Many dealerships offer the dealer installed swirl option “DISO” with every vehicle they sell.  It is always best to skip the free “detail” that is included when purchasing a new vehicle.  There simply isn’t enough time in the day for dealerships to properly detail every vehicle they sell.  A common production detailing practice is to apply a glaze instead of polishing the paint to hide paint defects.  Glazes are a temporary fix and take just minutes to apply saving countless time compared to the more labor intensive paint correction.  A true paint correction including all the prep work can take anywhere from eight hours all the way up to the better part of a work week. 

Once a vehicle’s paint has been improperly buffed the only way to fix it is to perform another paint correction removing even more paint.  Free and inexpensive details seem like a great deal until you think about all the paint damage that may be hiding beneath the freshly applied glaze.  Don’t let a free or discount detail end up costing you thousands of dollars in irreversible paint damage.
